Around 1 in 9 couples in Australia experience fertility problems. It’s a common thing that no-one will talk about, making it seem not common at all. Infertility is defined as the inability to conceive after 12 months of unprotected sexual intercourse. The next step is to of course seek a fertility specialist. For most couples this will lead them to IVF (In Vitro Fertilisation). The IVF process takes a massive toll on you not only physically but also psychologically. It can be an extremely stressful time on couples and stress can actually impact your fertility, making it harder to conceive. This is where Fertility Acupuncture comes in.

Acupuncture can help to reduce stress by reducing cortisol and increasing endorphins and the like which are the hormones and chemicals that make you feel good. Acupuncture can also help:

  • increase blood flow and circulation
  • balance energy
  • pain management

and more…

The hormone injections alone can be painful and draining. It’s definitely something you don’t want to have to do multiple times. Fertility Acupuncture has been gaining popularity as a complimentary treatment alongside IVF. Along with it’s popularity, more studies are being done and showing positive results.

Past research, showed that acupuncture helped to improve vasodilation and improve blood flow to the ovaries and uterus. It also helped induce neurotransmitters, which in turn helped to increase ovulation, menstrual regularity and enhance fertility. A study published in 2015 by Lee Hullander, showed that when Fertility Acupuncture treatments were performed alongside IVF, positive results increased. The people who underwent 10 or more acupuncture treatments before and after egg retrieval and implantation, had an increased number of live births by roughly 60%.
