Dry needling is a modern treatment designed to ease muscular pain. It is an extremely useful soft tissue treatment technique that uses a sterile, single-use acupuncture needle. However, it is not used as acupuncture or is it in any way designed to work with Chinese philosophy.
The needle is penetrated into muscle tissue affecting its tone and reducing pain and spasm. It primarily focuses on the reduction of pain and restorating function through the release of myofascial trigger points in the muscle. This treatment is used when the cause of the complaint and soft tissue massage has been ineffective.
Dry Needling can be used for all ages and works very well on acute and chronic complaints. Although most patients describe it as unpleasant it is only short-lived and worth the discomfort. You would feel a mild sensation as the needle is inserted and when it is withdrawn.
If you haven’t tried this treatment before, call and make an appointment with Dr Themos Gourlas to find out why so many people request this type of treatment.
