Lately we’ve all been having to adjust our beauty routines with lots of at home treatments. Our spa days give us our ‘Me Time’ and  Self Care is more important than ever, not only for physical health but for mental health as well. We thought we would share one our favourite treatments that can also be done at home.

Steam Facials are simple but have countless benefits. Aside from being extremely refreshing and relaxing they also:

  • Promote circulation, leaving you with healthy, glowing skin
  • Open pores and allow oil and dirt buildup to be released
  • Increases blood flow, promoting the production of collagen
  • Helps with sinus and congestion

We could go on for ages about the benefits. Steam Facials are a perfect at home treatment as they can easily be adapted to suit any skin type, using different blends of oils and herbs, even teas can be used. Our beauty therapist Katherine has done the hard work for you with customised herbal blends available in her store here. When doing a Steam Facial, make sure to stay hydrated. The steam can make you perspire which is your pores sweating out toxins.

Begin with tying your hair back so it is away from your face. There’s nothing worse than hair getting in the way.

Cleanse your face by lightly exfoliating before hand. This softens any dirt or blackheads so the steam can open your pores and help clean more deeply.

Make sure the water is not scalding hot, as you can receive burns from the steam. Place the bowl somewhere you will be comfortable leaning over eg sitting at a table or the breakfast bar.

Add your chosen blend of herbs, oils or tea to the water and give a gentle stir.

Carefully lean over the bowl, draping a soft towel over your head and the bowl to make a sort of tent. This will lock in the steam. Use a timer or a 10 minute meditation to keep track of time.

After your 10 minutes, gently wash your face with cold water and pat dry with a soft towel.

Apply moisturiser or your favorite hydrating face mask afterwards.

For anyone experiencing acne, repeat once a week. For anyone experiencing congestion and pimples, repeat once a fortnight. For dry or aging skin, repeat monthly.

If you are experiencing dehydration, redness or sensitivity, a Steam Facial would not be good for you skin.
